US Out-of-Home Ad Revenues Climb 4.6% in 2015, Hit New Peak

    Notes: Out-of-home advertising revenues grew by 4.6% last year to reach $7.3 billion, besting the previous high set in 2007, per the OAAA. The year ended on a high note, with Q4’s 5.8% year-over-year increase the largest in at least 4 years. In fact, out-of-home advertising has now grown for 23 consecutive quarters since the recession.

    The miscellaneous services and amusements category was the top spender, growing by 9% year-over-year in 2015 and accounting for more than 20% of all revenues. Retail was the next-largest spending category, accounting for 11% of all revenue and hiking its spend by 7.5%.

    A majority of the top 100 advertisers had spending increases of at least 4.6% (the industry average). The top 5 advertisers in terms of spending were: McDonalds; Apple; Verizon; Warner Bros Pictures; and Metro PCS.
