With 1,211 titles, up from 1,125 in 2007, the Legal category has more newsletters than any other in 2008, according to the newly released 2008 edition of the Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters, which lists 15,185 US and Canadian newsletters.
Other top categories are Computers & Automation with 953 newsletters, up from 748 in 2007; and Investment with 915 newsletters, up from 685 in 2007. At the same time, Medical newsletters declined from 845 titles in 2007 to 813 in 2008.
The fastest-growing newsletter category is Apparel & Accessories, jumping 66% year over year, from 18 newsletters to 30. Other fast-growing newsletter categories are Television & Video (78 to 107); Investments (685 to 915), and Business & Industry (270-350).
In the past five years, among the categories showing healthy growth – from an already significant base – are Computers & Technology (from 577 in 2003 to 953 in 2008) and Investment (592 to 915), while decreases have been recorded in the Management, Social Services & Welfare, and Labor categories:
“Newsletters are continuing to thrive, with many more accepting advertising (3,726 carry ads) and renting subscriber lists (2,418) than ever before,” said Trish Hagood, President of Oxbridge Communications, Inc.
Online newsletters continue to increase in number, with 1,486 online newsletters compared with 1,310 last year; and 3,046 email newsletters in 2008, compared with 2,296 last year.
The Oxbridge Directory of Newsletters includes current address, phone, fax, URL and email information; names of editors, publishers, and other key personnel; frequency; print specifications; circulation, advertising and list rental information, where applicable.
