UK Internet Users the Leading Consumers of Online Video

Some 80% of the UK online population age 15+ initiated a video stream in April 2007, compared with 79% in France, 76% in the US, and 70% in Germany, according to comScore.

The average UK streaming-video viewer initiated 80 streams in April 2007, compared with 65 streams per streamer in the US, 64 streams per streamer in France and 62 streams per streamer in Germany.
 
In the UK streamers allocated 10% of their total time online to viewing video, compared with 13% in France, 9% in Germany and 6% in the US.

The study also reported on the most popular streaming sites in the UK. Of the 1.98 billion streams that were initiated in the UK in April 2007, 608.1 million – 38% – were initiated at Google sites (including YouTube.com).

Rounding out the top 5 were Yahoo sites, with 57.7 million streams, BBC sites with 32.2 million streams, Fox Interactive Media with 26.1 million streams and Microsoft sites with 17.3 million streams.

In France, of the 1.28 billion streams that were initiated in April 2007, 285.7 million – 22% – were initiated at Google sites, comScore reported.

The second most popular streaming site for streams was DAILYMOTION with 249.2 million streams initiated in April.

Other popular streaming sites included France Telecom with 23.9 million streams, Iliad/Free.fr sites with 17.6 million streams and Microsoft Sites with 5.3 million streams initiated during April 2007.
