Smartphones Generate 2 in 3 Connected Device Impressions

millenial-media-device-os-mix-june11-jul11.gifSmartphones generated about two in three (65%) connected device impressions on the Millennial Media network during June 2011, according to the July 2011 Millennial Media Mobile Mix. Feature phones generated 17% and other connected devices generated the remaining 18%.

Smartphone share actually decreased 3% from 67% in May 2011, while feature phone and connected device shares each grew by one percentage point.

Android Generates More than Half of Impressions

More than half of smartphone impressions (54%) on the Millennial network in June were generated by phones running on the Android platform. Another 26% ran iOS, while 15% ran RIM Blackberry. These shares are all virtually flat from the previous month.

WiFi Share Grows 10% MOM

millenial-media-device-input-mix-and-carrier-mix-jun11-jul11.gifExamining the carriers of the connected devices creating impressions on the Millennial network during June 2011, all WiFi carriers combined for a 34% share, up about 10% from May. Verizon’s share remained flat at 18%, as did Sprint/Nextel at 12%.

Device input share also remained flat, with 60% of impressions generated by touchscreen devices and 15% generated by touchscreen/QWERTY devices.

Apple Apps Generate Almost Half of Q2 Revenue

millenial-media-application-platform-q2-jul11.gifCombined Apple apps generated 49% of application revenue on the Millennial network in Q2 2011. Android followed with a 41% share.

Smartphone Impression Share Rises Drastically YOY

Examining the July 2010 Mobile Mix report [also available at the above sign-in], the most notable change is that smartphones jumped from producing 49% of impressions to 65%, a 33% gain. The gain came mainly at the expense of feature phones, which dropped almost 50% from 32% to 17%.
