Core Searches Grow 3% Again

For the second straight month, the total number of US core searches grew 3% month-over-month, according to comScore qSearch data.

Yahoo, Microsoft Make Slight Gains
Google Sites led the US core search market in June with 62.6% of the searches conducted (down 1.1 percentage points from May), followed by Yahoo Sites (up 0.6 percentage points to 18.9%), and Microsoft Sites (up 0.6 percentage points to 12.7%).

comScore analysis indicates that both Yahoo Sites and Microsoft Sites have experienced gains due in part to the continued utilization of contextual search approaches that tie content and related search results together.

In addition, Ask Network captured 3.6% of the search market, followed by AOL LLC with 2.2%.

US core search market share results were similar in May 2010, with Google Sites leading the market with 63.7% of the searches conducted, down 0.7 percentage points from 64.4% in April. Meanwhile, Yahoo Sites maintained the number two spot with 18.3% of all core searches, up 0.6 percentage points from 17.7% from the previous month. Microsoft sites remained in third place with 12.1% of all core searches, a 0.3 percentage point boost from 11.8% in April.

Microsoft Total Searches Rise 8%
During June 2010, Google Sites accounted for 10.3 billion searches (up 1%), followed by Yahoo Sites with 3.1 billion (up 7%), Microsoft Sites with 2.1 billion (up 8%), Ask Network with 584 million (up 1%), and AOL LLC with 368 million (up 2%).

Excluding Bing, Microsoft Searches Rise 25%
In the June analysis of the top properties where search activity is observed, Google Sites led the search market with 14.6 billion search queries, up 1% from the prior month, followed by Yahoo Sites with 3.2 billion queries, up 7%, and Microsoft Sites with 2.2 billion, up 9%..
In terms of search query growth, although all Microsoft properties excluding Bing only accounted for 456 million queries, this represented a 25% increase from May 2010.

Facebook.com, which has experienced dramatic search query fluctuation in recent months, including 48% growth in March 2010 and decreases of 4% in April 2010 and 2% in May 2010, saw its search queries rise 2% in June 2010 to 621 million.
